History of The Times of India
Let’s know about The Times of India in the beginning. Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India call this newspaper “the leading paper in Asia” at the beginning of the 20th Century. The Times of India published its first edition as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce on 3rd November 1838. At that time this newspaper covered the news from the world, Britain and Indian Subcontinent. In 1850, it started its daily editions. Its first editor was J.E. Brennan. In 1861, The editor Robert Knight changed its name from Bombay Times to The Times of India. In the 19th century, this newspaper company had more than 800 employees in India and Europe.
The ownership of this popular newspaper has changed several times. Until Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd formed by Thomas Jewell Bennett and Frank Morris Coleman in 1892. This newspaper introduced TOIFA (Times of India Film Award) Award in 2013 for the film industry.
